Upon arriving in Edinburgh, make your way to your selected hotel. Once settled in, enjoy the opportunity to delve into the rich tapestry of Edinburgh, Scotland's storied capital. Stroll the historic Royal Mile with its cobblestoned paths leading to the imposing Edinburgh Castle, set against the backdrop of an ancient volcanic crag. Dive into the city's vibrant arts scene, from bustling galleries to lively theatres. Culinary aficionados will relish exploring the local food markets, which showcase a mix of traditional and modern Scottish flavours. Make sure to visit the regal Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament building, which together illustrate the city's beautiful blend of historical and modern elements.

Day 2 – The Royal Scotsman

Your luxurious adventure aboard the Royal Scotsman begins with appropriate fanfare at Edinburgh Waverley. From the Scottish capital, the train heads north through Perth, before entering the wild landscapes surrounding Pitlochry and Blair Athol. On board, you can relax amid in the elegance of Edwardian design, while indulging in an afternoon tea as the rolling hills give way to dramatic peaks. The final part of the journey features a short trip on the private Strathspey Railway to picturesque Boat of Garten, where the pulls to a halt for the night. This evening, savour a delightful dinner of fine Scottish cuisine, followed by live entertainment in the Observation Car, before heading to your elegant cabin for the night.

Day 3 – Kyle of Lochalsh

Awaking on the Royal Scotsman, enjoy breakfast as the train departs toward Inverness, the capital of the Highlands. Your journey continues on the Kyle Line, one of Britain's most scenic routes. Lunch is served enroute as the train glides past picture-perfect Loch Luichart and the majestic Torridon Mountains. At Strathcarron, you can alight to visit Attadale Gardens. This 30,000-acre estate has been home to the Macpherson family since the 1950s and features a stunning Water Garden, a serene Japanese Garden, and a charming Sunken Garden. After exploring, enjoy light refreshments with your hosts in their home.

Instead of visiting Attadale Gardens, you could remain on the train and disembark in the picturesque village of Plockton. Here, you can set sail on a boat trip to observe a colony of wild seals and take in the spectacular coastal views. Back on dry land, enjoy a leisurely woodland walk before receiving a traditional Highland welcome, complete with a dram or two at the cosy Plockton Hotel.

Finally, return to the train in Kyle of Lochalsh, where the train will be stabled for the night. After dinner, make your way to the Observation Car, where local musicians will be ready to entertain you.

Aviemore

Day 4 - Aviemore

Departing from Kyle of Lochalsh, the train retraces part of yesterday's scenic route while you savour a delightful breakfast enroute to Inverness. Disembarking, you can visit Tomatin Distillery to learn about the production of whisky and enjoy a tasting of single malts. Alternatively, stay onboard as a Highland storyteller regales you with captivating tales of the Jacobites and other dramatic moments from Scotland's rich history.

After a delicious lunch on the train, disembark in Aviemore for an afternoon excursion to Ballindalloch Castle. Nestled in the heart of the Speyside whisky region, this grand country house boasts a breathtaking setting surrounded by rolling hills, and you can explore its treasure trove of artifacts on an exclusive, private tour.

Rejoining the train in Aviemore in the early evening, you journey towards Dundee for the night. Celebrate your last evening aboard with grand gala dinner before Scottish country dancing on the station platform, creating a fitting finale to your unforgettable tour.

Homeward bound

Breakfast is served as the train leaves Dundee bound for Edinburgh. As you cross the iconic Forth Bridge and roll back into the Scottish capital, your unforgettable journey reaches a conclusion.
