Your adventure begins today when you take your British Airways flight from London and travel overnight to Cape Town, South Africa.

Day 3 – Exploring Cape Town

Exploring Cape Town

Today you have a free day in Cape Town to get to know the city better. With the kinds of views most other cities can only dream of, Cape Town is a spectacular city for a walk, and if you want to get closer to those views, you can hike the mountains, including Table Mountain. The Mother City is also a great place for lounging on the beach and it's perfect for coffee lovers, as Cape Town loves its coffee. Or you can visit a brewery or just take a wander and sample some of the excellent street food on offer. Or, choose one of our optional excursions, available at a supplement.

Day 4 – Exploring Cape Town

Discovering Cape Town

Today you can enjoy a second free day in Cape Town and really get under the skin of this beautiful city. Visit a museum and an art gallery, or take your camera to the beach for some shots of the alluring coastline and enjoy relaxing by the ocean. Go shopping for souvenirs, or take a hike in the mountains, and visit one of the city's food markets for local dishes. Or, choose one of our supplementary optional excursions.

Day 5 – Rovos Rail

Rovos Rail

Today you'll be transferred from your hotel to Cape Town station where you'll board the iconic Rovos Rail. Arguably the most luxurious train in the world, Rovos Rail gives passengers the best of everything, from fine china and crisp fresh linen, to elephant's feet baths and fine dining options.

From the moment you step aboard this classic touring train an atmosphere of luxury and decadence is everywhere. The lounge car and the observation car are areas for relaxing and watching the scenery drift by, sinking into soft sofas and taking afternoon tea while you rumble on through the landscapes.

On your first afternoon you'll journey through the winelands of the Western Cape towards Worcester. Following a lavish and formal dinner onboard you can relax and get accustomed to your surroundings as the train makes its way through the first four tunnels of your journey.

Day 6 - Matjiesfontein

Matjiesfontein

Following a leisurely breakfast onboard this morning you'll stop at Matjiesfontein, where you'll visit a museum on the platform itself, and see a collection of classic cars and old railway carriages. Lunch is served back onboard the train as you travel on through the Karoo, once an inland sea and now a semi desert area. A formal dinner is served onboard this evening after which you can relax with a drink in the bar car or cosy up in your cabin.

Day 7 – Kimberley’s Diamond Mines

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast onboard this morning, before disembarking for a tour of Kimberley's Diamond Mining Museum and the Big Hole. Kimberly is famous for the discovery of diamonds here which led to the town becoming the capital of the Northern Cape. Lunch is served back onboard as you continue your journey towards the broad grassland plains of the Highveld. Enjoy a formal dinner this evening with pairings of fine South African wines, and relax in the observation car as the breathtaking scenery goes by.

Pretoria

Day 8 - Pretoria

Pretoria

After a last luxurious breakfast onboard this morning, it's time to leave this stunning and sumptuous train behind when you disembark at Pretoria. Bid farewell to Rovos Rail and take your memories with you, as you're transferred to your hotel in Pretoria. Choose from our especially picked 5* hotels, on a B&B basis.

Inbound Travel

Days 9 & 10 – Johannesburg to the UK

Your adventure comes to a close today as you say goodbye to Pretoria. You can enjoy some free time in the city to explore, before it's time for you to leave. You'll be transferred from your hotel to Johannesburg airport where you'll catch your overnight flight back to London.

Your British Airways flight will arrive back in the UK today, where you can look back on the wonderful memories you've built on this very special trip.
